Product Review
The simple, stylish design has its drawbacks: There are no settings for the various coffees, for example. The instructions pamphlet gives precise measurements – 120ml for a Caffe Lungo, 220 in total for a hot chocolate, and so on.
It’s far quicker, however, to just eyeball it – which, on the bonus side, also allows you to make your coffee as strong or as weak as you like.
Once you get that down, making a cup can take as little as about 15 seconds – which means even if you are already late for work, you could still afford to make some in a travel mug and fling yourself out the door.
Fortunately the machine is so easy to work that even if, during the initial set-up, one accidentally does everything backwards – hypothetically speaking, of course – it still works.
Coffee isn’t really supposed to be boiling hot. And, considering how fast the Circolo works, it is impressive that the water gets as hot as it does.
Even so, for the longer coffees – ie anything that is not an espresso – you are rather left feeling as though you need to gulp it down before it gets too cold, rather than savouring the quality of the drink.
Which is a shame, because this really is good coffee. When you get the proportions right and take that first sip – particularly first thing in the morning – any plans to grab an Americano on the way in to work simply melt away.
The price tag hurts: $149.95 on Amazon for a coffee maker feels steep, though it is comparable to others.
But the pods are easy to order online and are surprisingly cheap – $8.70 for 16 espressos, for example. The money you’ll have by not standing in Starbucks any more means you’ll have your investment back in no time.

The machine was everything it said. It does take a few attempts to get the coffee the way you want it, but after that you are set to go.….

Bought this machine to replace a worn out Tassimo (Braun version). Coffee comes out just as good and I love the design. Not fully automatic like the Tassimo, but I really can’t complain too much. Also wish the water reservoir held more water. So overall it’s a 4 star. Hope this line catches on and they develop even more beverage pods for it…

Instead of heading to the coffee bar before work every morning and paying over $3.00 for a cup of mocha, I can now make my own at home in this gorgeous and so-easy-to-use coffee maker. I paid more to get the Circolo design, but it looks great, works great, saves me money, and I am so glad I bought it…
